Is it permissible for our children in France to eat the meat available in school cafeterias?

The meats in French restaurants that require ritual slaughter (tadhkiyah) are subject to one of three situations: If it is known that they were stunned (and subsequently died from it), then they are dead (maytah (definition)) and forbidden, based on the Almighty's saying: "Forbidden to you are carrion." If it is known that they were slaughtered according to Islamic law (shar'an), then they are permissible (halal (definition)) if the slaughterer was a Muslim or a person of the Book who did not dedicate the slaughter to other than Allah; otherwise, they should not be eaten. If the method of slaughter is unknown, then they are permissible based on the Almighty's saying: "The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you," provided that ritual slaughter is generally prevalent and the slaughterer is a Muslim or a person of the Book.
