For the slaughtered chicken (Dhabiha) to be permissible to eat, it is a condition that the windpipe (halqum) and the two jugular veins (wadajain) are cut, and that the slaughterer is a Muslim or a person of the Book (Kitābī). If it is slaughtered by stunning, or if the slaughterer is neither a Muslim nor a person of the Book, then it is not permissible to eat, and it is considered carrion (). However, if the conditions for its slaughter are met, then it is permissible.
