What is the ruling on a Muslim woman working as a childcare provider in a non-Islamic nursery in the West, where she is required to feed the children pork or non-halal meat, and what is the ruling on the money earned from this work?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is not permissible to feed children unlawful food, such as carrion and pork, and one must refrain from doing so even if asked. However, if your work is limited to permissible tasks, there is no harm in it. But if it involves both lawful and unlawful elements, then it is not permissible to continue in it. The wages earned by a worker in such a job, if they did not directly engage in the unlawful act, are permissible for them. However, if they directly participated in presenting the unlawful in their work, then a portion of their salary, equivalent to that unlawful act, becomes unlawful.
