What is the Sharia ruling on Muslims eating food provided in restaurants whose owners claim their slaughtered meat is halal, while rumors are circulating in the Italian media that their slaughter is not Islamic and that their food may be mixed with pork?

As long as the restaurants are owned by Muslims, their slaughtered meat is permissible (halal (definition)), and no attention should be paid to the doubts of skeptics without evidence. Ibn Hazm said: "Everything slaughtered by a Muslim, whether a transgressor (fasiq), an ignorant person, or a People of the Book, which is not witnessed by us, is permissible to eat." He based this on the hadith (definition) of Aisha, where some people said to the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Some people bring us meat, and we do not know whether they mentioned Allah's name over it or not?" The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied: "You mention Allah's name, and eat."
