Mash is wiping, rather than washing, a part of the body during wudu. It most often means wiping over the head, or over socks or a cast, in place of washing the foot or skin beneath. Conditions apply, such as putting the socks on while already in a state of purity.

What is the meaning of the word "mash'ar"?
Al-Mash'ar linguistically means: a landmark. Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram was given this name because it is a landmark for worship and a place for it.
