No one is permitted to pray on behalf of another, whether for compensation or gratuitously, whether the prayer is obligatory or supererogatory, and whether for a living person or a deceased one. Any money taken for such an act must be returned, regardless of whether it was US dollars or Iraqi dinars. It is preferable to compensate them for any depreciation in currency value that may have occurred. There is no need to inform them of the reason when returning the money.
