Is a son obligated to maintain ties of kinship on behalf of his father?

Kinship ties are obligatory for every accountable individual, and it is a personal obligation (fard ayn) in which no one can deputize for another. The relatives whose kinship ties are obligatory to maintain include those with whom there is a Mahram (definition) relationship, such as brothers and sisters, paternal uncles and aunts, and maternal uncles and aunts. Part of a child's dutifulness to their parents after their death is to maintain ties with their relatives, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Praying for them, seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their pledges after them, maintaining the ties of kinship that cannot be maintained except through them, and honoring their friends."
