Is a distance of three kilometers beyond the miqat considered to be within its boundaries, or is a fidyah (expiatory payment) obligatory for me for having passed it?

Despite the spatial miqats being great valleys, passing their mosques by a small distance may take the pilgrim out of the miqat (definition) boundaries. For instance, at the miqats of Dhāt Irq and Dhū al-Ḥulayfah, the distance between the mosque and the outer limits of the miqat is less than three kilometers. It is not permissible to delay the assumption of ihram (definition) until al-Baydā’, as Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did, otherwise, it would necessitate a sacrifice (dam) upon whoever neglects it.
