What is the ruling on one who abandons the intention of Ihram?

If what is meant is the intention for ihram (definition) for Hajj or Umrah (definition), it is the intention to enter the ritual and is one of its pillars. Its place is the heart, and uttering it verbally is not a condition. Whoever abandons ihram, their Hajj or Umrah is not valid. It is not permissible for one who intends Hajj or Umrah to pass the Miqat (definition) without ihram. If they do so, they must return to it to assume ihram from there. If they do not return and assume ihram from within the Miqat, they owe a sacrifice (dam) to be slaughtered in Mecca for the poor of the Haram (definition), or fast ten days if they are unable (to provide a sacrifice).
