The answer

Any good deed, the reward of which a living person dedicates to a deceased Muslim, will benefit the deceased, and the reward will reach them. It is better for a person to dedicate the reward of their deeds to themselves and to frequently supplicate for the deceased for mercy and forgiveness. It is permissible to perform ' on behalf of the deceased, but it is not valid for someone to perform 'Umrah on behalf of another unless they have already performed 'Umrah for themselves.
