Does a niqabi who does not lower her gaze from non-mahram men cause harm to the niqab and to niqabis, and is she oblivious to this harm?

Allah commanded women to lower their gaze from men. Many scholars have concluded that it is impermissible for a woman to look at non-mahram (definition) men, whether with or without lust, citing the hadith (definition) of Umm Salamah as evidence. Others, however, have deemed it permissible for them to look without lust. The summary of the ruling is that it is impermissible for a woman to look at non-mahram men with lust, by consensus. As for looking without lust, there is a difference of opinion, and it is better to avoid it unless there is a need. The obligation to lower the gaze becomes even stronger if her husband commands her to do so. As for the commission of some Shar'i transgressions by some women who wear the niqab, this is a disservice to themselves and not to the niqab. A woman who wears the niqab should be mindful of her actions and avoid doubtful matters, as she represents a religious شعيرة (ritual/symbol).
