Is it permissible to travel for leisure when one has not yet performed the obligatory Hajj, and is it permissible to travel with one's mother's cousin and his wife, or with a group of committed female friends, if one has the financial means for Hajj?

If an able-bodied woman has not yet performed the obligatory Hajj, she must prioritize it over other travels due to its immediacy. Scholars differed regarding the requirement of a mahram (definition) for a woman during Hajj. Some absolutely required it, citing prophetic hadiths, while others did not require it for an elderly woman. Still others sufficed with trustworthy companionship. The preponderant view is that a husband or mahram is required for a young woman, but not for an elderly woman, for whom it is permissible to travel with trustworthy companionship when there is no fear of fitna.
