What is the ruling on a male friend visiting the house in the absence of the father when there are only women present?

A man's visit to a non-mahram (definition) woman is permissible under certain conditions: that there is no seclusion (khalwa (definition)), no display of adornment (tabarruj), no soft speech (khudu' bil-qawl), no fear of temptation (fitna), and that there is a need for the visit. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, visited Duba'ah bint Az-Zubair and Umm As-Sa'ib or Umm Al-Musayyab. The definition of khalwa is any gathering where suspicion is not averted, and khalwa is not negated by the presence of a young child who is too young to be shy of.
