What is the ruling on my work as a taxi driver, given my seclusion with non-mahram women who do not adhere to Islamic dress, and what is the ruling on transporting Muslims and non-Muslims to bars and nightclubs?
It is permissible for a man to work as a taxi driver if the earnings are lawful. However, it is not permissible for him to be alone with a non- woman in the car, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) sayings: "No man is alone with a woman except with a mahram," and "No man is alone with a woman but the third of them is Satan."
Furthermore, it is not permissible to use the car as a means to reach something unlawful or to assist those who engage in immoral acts, as Allah Almighty says: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression).
If you are in a country where you cannot prevent being alone with non-mahram women or transporting those who engage in immoral acts, then you must seek another profession, for (And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect).
