What is the ruling on the Hajj of a working woman who performed the obligatory pilgrimage without a mahram, accompanied by her two female colleagues?

It is forbidden for a woman to travel for Hajj without a mahram (definition), based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "A woman should not travel except with a mahram." A mahram is someone to whom a woman is permanently forbidden in marriage due to lineage or a lawful reason, and it is a condition that he be an adult and sane. It is not a condition that the woman be unsafe or unaccompanied by other women; rather, the fundamental principle is that her travel without a mahram is absolutely impermissible. Some people have taken a lenient view regarding a woman traveling by plane without a mahram, but this contradicts the apparent texts, as air travel is no different from other forms of travel in its exposure to risks. A woman must fear Allah and not travel for Hajj or anything else except with an adult and sane mahram.
