What is the ruling on women working in visual media?

Visual media have both advantages and disadvantages. Working in something that involves disadvantages is not permissible for men or women, because it constitutes cooperation in sin and the spreading of indecency. As for working in something that has benefit, it is permissible for men, subject to the controls of Islamic law. We must understand that the nature of women differs from that of men, and her primary and most important role is in her home and family. The function of motherhood is one of the noblest functions. If a woman abandons her family role for work outside her home, she destroys rather than builds. Therefore, it is not permissible for a woman to work in visual media as an announcer or program presenter, due to the harms that result from it, such as beautifying her image and voice for viewers, and perhaps being in seclusion with non-mahram (definition) men. This door should be completely closed, and a man is more suited to perform this task.
