How can we reconcile the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of competition, as in his saying, "And do not compete," with some fatwas that permit competition in worldly matters?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded Muslims to be loving brothers and forbade them from anything that would corrupt this love. Among these is rivalry (تنافس), which is the desire for something, the love of having it exclusively, and competing over it. The blameworthy rivalry is that concerning worldly matters, seeking prominence, arrogance, transgression, and envy over what Allah has given others. However, competing in goodness and righteousness is not blameworthy. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against rivalry over worldly matters because it leads to destruction.
