Is what was mentioned concerning the expiation for backbiting—seeking pardon and forgiveness, and offering one's honor in charity and pardoning the one who backbit—correct and sufficient for expiation?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It has been previously explained that backbiting is forbidden and how to expiate it through sincere repentance. It is more prudent to seek forgiveness from the wronged person if possible and if it does not lead to a greater harm. Forgiveness for past (transgressions) is permissible, unlike for future (transgressions). Regret and apologizing to the wronged person are sufficient for expiating backbiting if the wronged person forgives.
