Backbiting () is a major sin and causes corruption, estrangement, and hatred. It has been forbidden by the Qur’an and the . It is not proper for the husband to harbor ill suspicions about people or to ask his wife to relay information about her family, as this would make her a backbiter.
Whoever is informed of backbiting must not believe it, should advise the one who conveyed it, hate it for the sake of Allah, not harbor ill suspicions about his brother, not spy, and not convey the backbiting himself.
