The answer

It is permissible to perform stomach stapling, banding, or sleeve gastrectomy operations for the purpose of reducing excess weight. This is not considered altering Allah's creation, as it falls under the category of treatment. A prerequisite is the strong presumption that it will not lead to a greater harm, and in this regard, the opinion of a trusted physician should be sought. It is preferable to first utilize dieting and weight loss regimens.
