Is it permissible to perform a surgical operation on a deceased pregnant woman to extract her living fetus?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If a pregnant woman dies, her fetus will most likely die with her or moments later. However, if it is possible to save it alive by performing a C-section, the Hanbalis have permitted this, by incising her abdomen and extracting the fetus alive. Then, her abdomen is stitched, and she is buried.
