What is the ruling on undergoing surgery to remove facial scars that affect one's psychological well-being and social interactions?

Performing surgical operations to remove physical defects is permissible, as long as it does not result in greater harm. So, if it is confirmed by the doctors that there is no harm, then there is no objection. Sheikh Ibn Baz issued a fatwa (definition) permitting the removal of disfigurements from the face if possible without harm. The Permanent Committee also issued a fatwa permitting cosmetic surgeries to remove protrusions if success of the operation is highly probable and no harm results.
