Is it permissible to study Political Science at university, and is it true that it leads to atheism?

Allah Almighty commanded the pursuit of knowledge, and He commanded His Messenger to seek an increase in it by saying: "And say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge.'" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made it an obligation by saying: "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." The intended meaning is all beneficial knowledge, foremost among which is the knowledge of Sharia (definition), and it includes sciences like medicine, engineering, and other fields that the Muslim community needs. The seeker of such knowledge is rewarded if he intends it for the sake of Allah. The student of knowledge should first choose what the community needs, and avoid what is useless or harmful. If he fears deviation, he should abandon it, for safety is unparalleled, and warding off evils takes precedence over achieving benefits.
