The answer

"The fruit is not the sole purpose of planting trees. Trees are planted to preserve the environment and its balance, improve the climate, conserve the soil, provide shade, and for other benefits.

Therefore, the reward for planting and cultivating is not limited to planting fruit-bearing trees but also includes non-fruit-bearing trees. This is due to the benefits they offer to humans, animals, and birds, such as beautifying the environment, improving the climate, preserving the soil, purifying the air, and their utilization in industry.

The general principle is to leave trees intact and not cut them down unless there is a greater benefit, such as building a road or a house, or using their wood for a permissible purpose, even if not essential, as long as it offers a permissible benefit. However, cutting them down wantonly is reprehensible and constitutes corruption on earth.

It is also important to avoid cutting leaves and flowers from trees in public places if it harms the tree or contradicts the purpose of its planting, such as for beautification."
