is obligatory on an apartment purchased with the intention of selling it in the future, because it is considered a trade commodity. The apartment is to be appraised when a full year has passed since the original capital with which it was purchased, and its zakat is to be paid at one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of its value. Similarly, zakat on the rent becomes obligatory when a full year has passed on it, and it can be paid along with the zakat on the value of the apartment.
