What is the ruling on zakat for a residential home, an empty house, a closed shop, and two plots of land acquired four or five years ago, with no current intention of selling them?

Zakat (definition) is not obligatory on properties not intended for trade, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There is no sadaqah (definition) (zakat) on a Muslim for his slave or his horse." However, if you own goods with the intention of trade and a year has passed over them, zakat becomes obligatory. If more than a year has passed over them with the intention of trade, then you owe zakat for all those years.
