The answer

Betting for compensation is not permissible except in archery, horsemanship, and camel racing, or what is similar in meaning that exalts the status of Islam or beneficial sciences. Competitions that require paying money to participate are a form of prohibited gambling. Whoever participates in them while aware of the situation has sinned. Whoever wins in a prohibited competition must dispose of the prize by spending it on general Muslim welfare, such as for the poor and the needy.
