Is health insurance and compensation for medicines and sick leave permissible or forbidden?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The ruling on participating in insurance depends on its type. Commercial insurance is forbidden, and it is not permissible to voluntarily participate in it. If one is compelled to participate, he is not allowed to benefit from it except for the amount he contributed. Any excess should be disposed of by spending it on Muslim welfare or for the poor and needy. As for cooperative, Takaful insurance, it is permissible, and there is no harm in participating in it and benefiting from its compensations.
