The bank must return the funds and waive the service charges incurred due to the account's zero balance. It must also bear the litigation costs. However, no financial penalty beyond this is permissible, for Allah Almighty says: "So whoever has assaulted you, then assault him in like manner as he has assaulted you," and Allah Almighty says: "And if you punish [an enemy], then punish with an equivalent of that with which you were afflicted."
