The question

Is it permissible for a Muslim girl who fears for her faith to complete her mixed-gender university education while uncovering her face, given the availability of social guarantees against engaging in forbidden acts, or is it better to abandon her studies and devote herself to learning religious matters and memorizing the Qur'an?

The answer

Mixing between genders in universities is a great evil, and studying in them is impermissible except out of necessity or dire need. The preservation of religion takes precedence over every other interest. If there is no need for study, then it is obligatory to abandon it. If there is a need, then it is permissible to continue while avoiding the causes of fitna, such as forbidden mixing, and limiting one's presence in the university to what is necessary. The same applies to uncovering the face; it should be limited to what is necessary when present at the university, while covering it after leaving, knowing that covering the face is obligatory according to the most preponderant opinion.
