The question

Should I disregard my mother's advice about not selling my house, which I bought with an interest-based loan, and instead replace it with an Islamic loan, given that I am not convinced of the permissibility of Islamic loans and consider them to be disguised usury?

The answer

Usury (Riba) is among the greatest of forbidden acts. One who consumes it must offer sincere repentance by regretting the deed, resolving not to return to it, and seeking forgiveness for it. It is not necessary to sell a house that was purchased with a usurious loan, as it is permissible to benefit from it. This is because the impermissibility of the loan is attached to the borrower's liability, not to the specific item for which it was used. As for purchasing a loan from Islamic banks, if the bank will sell you a commodity for more than its value, on condition that you pay the price in installments and at known times without a penalty for delay, then there is no harm in that transaction.
