What is the ruling on donating the interest from a bank account to charitable organizations, and what is the ruling on dealing with such an account, and is it permissible to pay the administrative expenses of the account from this interest?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The fundamental principle is to avoid dealing with interest-based banks. If you are compelled to open an account, seek out Islamic banks. If you can only find an interest-based bank, open a current account, not a savings account, even if you intend to donate its interest. If you have already opened a savings account with an interest-based bank, you must repent and close it, and dispose of the usurious interest by spending it on public welfare and charitable causes, such as charitable organizations.
