If the bank lends a customer money to buy land or a house, and the customer repays it with an increase, then this transaction is religiously forbidden because it is an usurious loan. Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of usury" (Al-Baqarah: 278). And "Allah has cursed the one who consumes usury and the one who pays it" (Narrated by Muslim). The one who pays it is the borrower with interest.
