What is the ruling on the excess money (interest) you spent, knowing that the principal amount deposited in the usurious bank has already been withdrawn?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
One must repent to Allah from engaging in usurious transactions because it is among the gravest of sins, and the' Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified its danger. The capital deposited in the bank belongs to its owner, but the usurious interest generated from it does not belong to him, and he must dispose of it by spending it on the welfare of Muslims. If it has been consumed, there is no obligation to replace it.
