What is the ruling on renting musical instruments?

Listening to musical instruments is unlawful (haram (definition)) in Islamic law, with the exception of the duff (a type of tambourine) for women. Renting musical instruments is also unlawful because they are not considered valid property in Islamic law, and their use is not permissible. Unlawful musical instruments must be destroyed. As for the duff, it is permissible to rent it out unless it is known that the renter will use it for something unlawful. The use of the duff is restricted to women. Remember that whoever abandons something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate them with something better.
