Prayer in a musalla (prayer area) is permissible, and it is not obligatory to go to the mosque, although prayer in a dedicated mosque is superior and carries greater reward. It is not obligatory to perform the prayer at the very beginning of its time, nor to go to it immediately upon the (call to prayer). Rather, it is permissible to delay going until close to the (call to stand for prayer), even though arriving early at the mosque to attain the virtues of the first row, perform the ratibah (supererogatory prayers), and await the congregational prayer is desirable.
