Is one sinful for missing the Maghrib prayer in the mosque due to being occupied with breaking a voluntary fast?
Fasting on Monday or any other day does not necessitate missing the Maghrib prayer in the mosque. However, if food is prepared before going to the mosque, there is no sin in staying to eat, even if you miss the congregational prayer at the mosque. A concession has been granted for this situation to one for whom food has been prepared, as stated in the : "When the evening meal of one of you is served and the prayer is announced, begin with the evening meal, and do not hurry until he finishes it." This is also what Ibn Umar did. This is due to the dislike of praying in the presence of food that the eater desires, in order to preserve complete devotion (khushu'). This applies if there is ample time. However, if time is short, prayer becomes immediately obligatory.
