What is the ruling on holding a second congregational prayer in the mosque for those who arrive late for the prayer?

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning holding a second congregational prayer in a mosque that has a regular Imam. The Hanafis, Malikis, and Shafi’is disliked it, fearing disunity and exploitation by people of desires. However, Ahmad, Ishaq, and Ibn Al-Mundhir permitted it, citing the hadith (definition) of Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri, in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged praying with a man who had missed the congregation. This latter opinion is the more correct one. As for a mosque that does not have a regular Imam, there is no dislike, by consensus, in holding multiple congregations within it.
