The question

What is the ruling on women praying in a place separate from men in the mosque, with a road for cars between the two places, and using loudspeakers to unify the prayer? Is it a condition that the mosque building be one for the congregational prayer to be valid?

The answer

Scholars have differed concerning one who prays outside the mosque, with a barrier between them and their Imam that prevents sight. The more cautious opinion is to prohibit it, except out of necessity. However, it is permissible by agreement of the Imams if the the rows are connected. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds the view that it is permissible unconditionally when there is a necessity. As for the current situation, it is better for women to pray in their homes, for that is superior for them.
