Is it permissible for the Imam to sit on the minbar while delivering the Friday sermon?

Scholars differed on the ruling of standing during the Friday sermon, holding two views: The first is that it is recommended, which is the view of the majority of scholars. The second is that it is a condition for those who are able, which is the view of the Shafi’is. According to the Shafi’i school, standing and sitting between the two parts of the sermon are conditions for those who are able. Meanwhile, Malik, Abu Hanifa, and Ahmad hold that standing and sitting between them are Sunnah (definition), and the sermon is valid if delivered while sitting, even with the ability to stand.
