The answer

The latecomer (masbuq) should lower his voice when reciting and not vocalize, because he is treated like a person praying alone (munfarid) in what he makes up. So, if his (school of thought) holds that a person praying alone should vocalize in a loud prayer, then the latecomer should vocalize. But if his madhhab holds that a person praying alone should not vocalize, then the latecomer should not vocalize. As for the Friday prayer, the latecomer should not vocalize because he is in the ruling of a person praying alone. However, he is considered to have caught the Friday prayer, just like someone who catches one rak'ah of the prayer before its time expires.
