What is the ruling on a woman leading men in the Friday prayer and other prayers?

It is impermissible for a woman to lead men in prayer, and this is an agreed-upon matter among jurists. Many legal texts and the practice of Muslims over fourteen centuries attest to this, including Allah's saying: "Men are in charge of women," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A people will not succeed who entrust their affairs to a woman." The prayer of men behind her is invalid. As for the hadith (definition) of Umm Waraqah, scholars have differed regarding it, some deeming it weak, others interpreting it as her leading women only, or as a specific concession for her.
