What is the ruling on reciting the Qur'an during the Friday sermon?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
It is better to be occupied with listening to the sermon and not to turn away from it to read the Quran or send blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. However, if the worshiper is far from the Imam such that he cannot hear his words or understand anything from him, then it is permissible for him to engage in an act of obedience, such as reading the Quran or performing dhikr (remembrance of God), because attentiveness was enjoined for proximity and listening. So, if listening is not possible, then attentiveness is not required.
