The question

Does what you have mentioned mean that whoever is afflicted with doubt does not care about his doubts except regarding the number of rak'ahs or prostrations, where he bases his decision on the greater number and performs the prostration of forgetfulness?

The answer

One who is overcome by doubt should not pay attention to it. What was mentioned about prostrating after the salām is the opinion of some scholars, and many jurists do not consider it to require a prostration of forgetfulness. As for those who say one should prostrate after the salām, it is on the basis of recommendation. Thus, the worshiper should disregard overwhelming doubt and not try to correct it. Rather, he should build upon the greater number (of units performed) and prostrate after the salām as a recommended act.
