How many times should one perform Istikhara, and how is the best decision made after Istikhara in the matter of divorce when there is hesitation?

Some scholars believe in repeating the Istikhara prayer seven times, or an unrestricted number of times until the heart is at peace, while others hold that after performing Istikhara, the supplicant should proceed with the matter unless Allah diverts them from it. Istikhara is performed for permissible matters where the right course of action is unknown, and it is not performed for seeking divorce unless there is a legitimate Sharia (definition)-compliant reason for it.
