The answer

It is recommended for a Muslim to seek refuge with Allah from Satan. If one is in prayer and Satan whispers to him, it is recommended for him to spit lightly to his left three times while seeking refuge, and this does not harm the prayer; rather, it completes it. As for outside of prayer, spitting lightly with seeking refuge is recommended in specific situations, such as when one sees a dream he dislikes. In other cases outside of prayer, seeking refuge alone is sufficient without spitting. If a Muslim seeks refuge by spitting lightly outside of prayer to repel Satan's whispers, there is no harm in that, but it should not be done regularly except when needed.
