It is recommended for the Imam, after the prayer, to turn his face towards the congregants, either to his right or left. It is disliked for him to remain facing the , due to the of Samurah: "When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, finished a prayer, he would turn his face towards us." And due to the hadith of Aisha: "When he finished the prayer, he would not remain in his place except for the duration of saying: 'O Allah, You are As-Salam (the Source of Peace), and from You is all peace; blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.'" Also, his remaining would give the impression to someone entering that he is still praying.
