How does a traveler who cannot find water perform tayammum to combine two prayers, either by advancing or delaying them, according to the majority opinion? And is he required to perform two tayammums?

The jurists differed on the ruling concerning combining two prayers with a single tayammum (definition). Some, such as the Hanbalis and Hanafis, permitted it, while others, such as the Shafi'is and Malikis, prohibited it. Al-Nawawi adopted the view of the Shafi'i school, which holds that it is not permissible to combine two obligatory prayers with a single tayammum, and he reported this from most scholars.
