It is permissible for a girl to ride with you in a car in the presence of her cousin or another man, as the impermissibility of khalwa (definition) (private seclusion) is absent and fitna (temptation) is avoided, provided that the journey to the university is not considered safar (travel). However, a woman riding alone with a non-mahram (definition) man in a car constitutes an impermissible khalwa, and the corruptions associated with khalwa are present in this situation. The passing of people does not prevent this, because the car is in motion and because forbidden acts such as whispering and touching can occur without people's knowledge.
