The answer

It has been authentically and widely transmitted (mutawatir) that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to raise his hands when bowing (rukūʿ) and when rising from it. This is from the , and there is no difference in this between obligatory (fard) and voluntary (nafila) prayers. The default is that voluntary prayers are like obligatory prayers, except for what has been explicitly excluded. Al-Suyuti cited the about raising the hands as an example of a mutawatir narration.
